Walking Worthy of our Calling
By Patricia Newman
"I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called." Ephesians 4:1
"Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel." Philippians 1:27
"That you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and
glory." 1 Thessalonians 2:12
"That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;" Colossians 1:10
Is your walk in line with God's requirements of those who bear His name? Is the Lord God Almighty not worthy of your total love, adoration, allegiance and faithfulness? Christians have been called out of the gross darkness of sin into the marvellous light of God. Christians are endowed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places; being In Christ, and seated with Christ. Hallelujah!
Does it not follow, then, that we would delight in Him, His word and His way? Does it not follow that what we think, say and do must continually reflect the calling of the Highest? Can we live a life that worthily manifests the fruit of His Spirit without the continual infilling of the Holy Spirit?
Here are the words of a new song which reminds us and exhorts us to walk worthy of the great and amazing calling of God:
Walk Worthy of the Highest Whose Call you Received
Walk worthy of the Highest Whose call you received.
Hold dearly to the Cross and the victory Christ achieved.
The sweet fragrance of our Lord Jesus spread wherever you go.
The grace to imitate Christ, the Lord our God will bestow.
Walk worthy of the gospel of Christ, our Sovereign Lord.
In one Spirit standing fast, and firm in one accord.
Each great truth of His gospel, advance and defend.
Be strong in the power of God and persevere 'till the end.
Walk worthy of the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Prize Christ above all else; how He grandly sacrificed
So willingly His precious blood for sinners' gain.
With zeal, pursue His will and in our hearts may He reign.
Walk worthy of Christ's love, pleasing God, bearing fruit.
Through His Spirit, upholding His word, every lie, with grace, refute.
Do all for the glory of Jesus and our great Redeemer's praise,
For the cause of Jesus Christ sets our hearts ablaze!
