A plea to fellow Christian parents

         Focus not on a “head start”,
         Give instead a true start.
         Wisdom commands a Godstart,
         Their eternal gain, a pure heart.

By a “Godstart”, we mean the early and thorough grounding of the education of our children in the Word of God. From the very beginning of their learning, our little ones’ dark hearts must be exposed to the pure light of God’s Word. Our priority must surely be to raise our children as our holy and infinitely wise God commands.

God’s Word is clear. Scriptures such as Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Psalm 78:2-8 and Ephesians 6:4 lay out our biblical mandate for teaching our children the ways of God. Obedience to the commands in these verses is crucial. Teach them early, teach them well. Be diligent.

Take all opportunities, use all good means, to let them know and understand who God is. Pray unceasingly that they have a vision of the holiness of God, that they may have an understanding of the true horror of sin, and that this would lead them to repent and trust in Jesus. The times are exceedingly evil and spiritual darkness abounds. We must prayerfully guard against worldly influences through schools, secular teachers, peers, internet, books, music, computer games and other sources.

Let us whole-heartedly honour God; let us give the greatest gift to our children, give Christ: give a Godstart. May the Lord God bless all your labour in your closest vineyard as you seek to raise, for His glory, Godly children in a wicked and perverse generation.

30 Bible verses to instruct, delight, comfort and encourage Christian parents:

Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
Matthew 4:4

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Genesis 1:27

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one's youth.
Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;
They shall not be ashamed,
But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
Psalm 127:3-5

For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.
Genesis 18:19

But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.”
Mark 10:14

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Deuteronomy 6:4-9

You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
Deuteronomy 5:8-10

Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6

Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;
The rod of correction will drive it far from him.
Proverbs 22:15

And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
Ephesians 6:4

The rod and rebuke give wisdom,
But a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.
Proverbs 29:15

Correct your son, and he will give you rest;
Yes, he will give delight to your soul.
Proverbs 29:17

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
Ephesians 6:1-3

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.
Mark 9:42

He who spares his rod hates his son,
But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.
Provbers 13:24

Chasten your son while there is hope,
And do not set your heart on his destruction.
Provbers 19:18

My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
Hebrews 12:5

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
2 Timothy 3:16

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:10

I will open my mouth in a parable;
I will utter dark sayings of old,
Which we have heard and known,
And our fathers have told us.
We will not hide them from their children,
Telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord,
And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.

For He established a testimony in Jacob,
And appointed a law in Israel,
Which He commanded our fathers,
That they should make them known to their children;
That the generation to come might know them,
The children who would be born,
That they may arise and declare them to their children,
That they may set their hope in God,
And not forget the works of God,
But keep His commandments;
And may not be like their fathers,
A stubborn and rebellious generation,
A generation that did not set its heart aright,
And whose spirit was not faithful to God.
Psalm 78:2-8

Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
Mark 16:15

The children of Your servants will continue,
And their descendants will be established before You.
Psalm 102:28

The voice of rejoicing and salvation
Is in the tents of the righteous;
The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.
Psalm 118:15

Walk about Zion,
And go all around her.
Count her towers;
Mark well her bulwarks;
Consider her palaces;
That you may tell it to the generation following.
For this is God,
Our God forever and ever;
He will be our guide
Even to death.
Psalm 48:12-14

When I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.
2 Timothy 1:5

Blessed is every one who fears the Lord,
Who walks in His ways.
When you eat the labor of your hands,
You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you.
Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine
In the very heart of your house,
Your children like olive plants
All around your table.
Behold, thus shall the man be blessed
Who fears the Lord.
Psalm 128:1-4

The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

May the Lord give you increase more and more,
You and your children.
May you be blessed by the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.
Psalm 115:14-15
